Oregon Scientific AW129 Wireless BBQ Thermometer with Probe Thermometer and Remote

I bought my unit after reading all the reviews published here. Since the majority were favorable I was hopeful that the probability was good that I'd be satisfied.

The unit displays an impressive amount of information. At first glance my only disappointment was that there was no temperature readout at the sensor location. Not a deal breaker.

It performed flawlessly on a pork tenderloin; the remote receiver was able to maintain contact through an outside wall two rooms away from the sensor.

The second time I used it the display defaulted to 199*F and sounded a constant alarm. Nothing, not removing/replacing the batteries, not synchronising the units, could restore normal functioning.

Now, I'm left with my wife's reminding me that I should have bought locally so I could take it back.


I loved this thing when it worked. Unfortunately, the temperature probes go out frequently and then the units give very strange readings. I've used my unit about 10 times and am currently on my third probe.

I use mine for smoking, so theres not much heat and no flare ups. There are a lot of reveiws that complain of the same issue with the probes. If they could produce a reliable probe, this would be very good!!

I didn't have any problems with anything but the defective probes.


This works very well BUT if it stops working, there are TWO reset buttons that are not explained in the manual. Call Oregon Scientific and their tech service people can explain the steps necessary to reset both the sender and receiver. ALSO, read the manual to be sure you turn them on and off in the correct order.


As others have indicated, you will be wasting your money on this piece of trash. After three or four uses, it is indicating 199 degrees at room temperature. I won't bother with the web site.


I purchased this product and it worked 3 times. I have written to the manufacturer and have had no response. It is a great idea, just buy from someone else.


I bought two of these and both are broken. If the cable touches the sides of the grill lid while cooking it will burn the inside of the cable and stop working.

I called for an replacement and was told it would cost as much as a whole new unit.. Thanks but no thanks I have learned from their mistake..


As other reviewers, I have and like other OS products. However, this one only lasted about 4 uses. The temperature no longer reports correctly from the remote sensor to the monitor if it reports at all. Very disappointing!

Hit all the reset buttons and fiddled with the batteries. The thing has a life again . . . go figure!!


This actually worked well in the oven inside the house. But the first time it went outside to the gas BBQ it broke. I did not have the probe in any flames, it was in the chicken and the lid was closed to minimize flare-ups. If they would have advertised this for indoor oven only use, I may have said a nice thing or two about it.

I'm not sure if I will try to go through the hassle of trying to find another probe (don't know if they sell them), the hassle of returning the unit, or the hassle of kicking myself whenever I see it in my kitchen wondering why I did not pay more attention to the negative reviews.

Do not buy.


I got this on sale last year for about $23. I thought it was a good deal at first, but I got what I paid for. I used it once in January, then decided it was too cold to grill out. So I took the batteries out and put it away until May. When I put the batteries back in, the remote base turned on, but the main unit would not. I tried a different set of batteries, but that didn't help either. Resetting and re-connecting the devices (as the manual suggested) was useless, because the unit just wouldn't power up. I sent an email through Oregon Scientific's website (because there's not a phone number to be found), and received no response. Well, if you count an auto-generated "thanks for your inquiry" type email, they did send that. After this poor experience, I will not buy another Oregon Scientific product.


Purchased this as my 3rd attempt with a remote meat thermometer. Like most units it was a bit flaky when wirelessly connecting the remote unit with the base. The range, however, was pretty good and the presets by meat type were useful. Like other reviewers, the unit decided about a month along to flash the maximum temperature and refused to ever work again. I made the mistake of emailing Oregon Scientific, who couldn't be bothered to reply to their own customer service email account. I have now given up on all digital and remote thermometers, and now buy the inexpensive analog models that actually work.

I bought 5 of these kits for all of my groomsmen, and I have to say that they are quite a bargain. The case is nice, but if it were me I probably wouldn't keep everything in it. A couple of the cases seemed to not want to close all the way. But if you're buying this, you're probably more interested in the tools themselves.

And to that end, the tools are immaculate. All the knives are very sharp and sturdy. I highly recommend this item, whether you use it for yourself or as a gift. I'm going to be buying my own soon too.


I bought this for my grandpa and he loved he plans on using it over and over again


I recieved this kit with a smashed case. The quality of this product was far below what I expected for the price. I had to return this product for 2 reasons, damaged and low quality.


So far so good, the only complain i have is with respect to the wire bruch which has very short brizzles and since the handle is straight and not angled when cleaning or scrubbing the hot grill it is a real pain with the heat from the grill. You will need a heat resistant glove when using it.


Two days before my order was to arrive, it showed up on the tracking that the item had arrived damaged. When I called the phone number provided, I was told it would take at least two weeks to get a new one to me. Since I had ordered it as a Father's Day present, I had to cancel it and go buy something at a store.

My money WAS refunded promptly, so I would consider purchasing from this seller again.


This was a gift for my husband for Father's Day and he loved it. He grills a lot and just wanted a set of tools together, this case is great with holding everything in one place. Also, the tools were sturdy and do the job they are intended to do. The only thing I didn't like as much was the basting brush...but unless you get one with permanent silicone tips no brush will last forever.

Weber 2501 All-Purpose Kabob Set

These stainless steel skewers and bright heavy-duty plated steel rack make a perfect setup for cooking kabobs. Includes six skewers. Fits 18-1/2" charcoal grills or larger, and all weber gas grills.

Works perfectly. A little on the pricey side, though. But the more you use it to cook for other people, the price per compliment goes down.


I've used this several times already. It works really well. It easily comes apart to take up less space for storage. It holds the skewers up above the cooking grate, which works well for delicate items like shrimp that tend to stick when they touch the hot surface.

One of the best things about it is the flat skewers. If you are using round skewers, as I was before I bought this, you are in for a treat. They work just like the round ones except the food won't rotate on them. That means when you turn the skewer, the food turns with it -- what a great idea! Believe me, you'll never use the round ones again after trying this.


The length and width of the skewers are perfect. Everything stays on very nicely and the rack holds the skewers in place at a very good distance. Things cook very well and it is easy to slide the meat and veggies off when they are done. Clean up is easy too.


Came quickly and in great shape. Used it the day I got it. FANTASTIC!! Grilled scallops and the kabob set worked great. Easy to clean-up.


I am using the Weber 2501 Kabob Set on my Weber Q220. It delivers very nice and tasty results and is easy to handle on the BBQ. In terms of cleaning (should not be put to dishwasher due to nickel plating) and durability it would be great if they were made of stainless steel.

I got the grill set for my fiance b/c he really needed some decent grilling tools. Wow, these babies are big! They are good quality and an excellent buy for the price. The only comment I have is that they are so big, it was hard to find a suitable home for them i.e. you probably can't just shove them in a drawer in your kitchen. He's very pleased and I'm happy that I made a good selection


My two son-in-laws I gave these sets to were very impressed with their quality & can't wait to use them! I felt good giving them such a high quality gift for the reasonable price that it was.


As many others have said, these tools are huge! Make sure you have a convenient place to store them, because they will not simply fit into any small area you have.
The tools seem to be of a high quality, and look great too. With the low price, this is an excellent purchase. I've only used them a few times, so longevity cannot be confirmed.


I have not had the opportunity to use all five pieces but the quality is great. The brush doesn't seem to mind the high heat of a coal grill, the tongs are long enough to keep hands away from the intense heat. I'm looking forward to using the other pieces in my next grilling session, so far so good.


Regarding my purchase of Mr. Bar-B-Q 5-Piece Oval Stainless Handle Tool Set

I am most pleased with my new Bar-B-Que tool set. They are stainless steel and there is no wood on them to weather. They are of a goodly size for use on my grill. Each tool has an opening in the end of it which could be used to hang it, providing your grill has "hooks" small enough. My didn't, but I bought a bag of leather strip remnants and my grandson tied military knots into loops for the ends of the tools. I'm all set. The price couldn't be beat. I checked pretty much everywhere. They are perfect and I'm so glad I ordered them.


Don't be fooled by pictures, but this set is HUGE. Nicely heavy, and a bargain for the price.


I bought this grill set for my fiance. He absolutely loved them. They are heavy and extremely sturdy. I would definitely recommend them!!


I bought this for my bf for a christmas gift. He likes to bbq on a little propane grill. I guess I should have read the measurements of the tools. They are more suited for a huge grill. But its better than them being tiny. Good quality build. Might want to buy a nicer package to put them in if giving as a gift.

Tis is a very helpful Q cookbook with lots of recipe's. If you are interested in more than just throwing meat on your grill this book may be for you.


Chocked full of "how to" information and recipes. On my initial read through the book, I thought Mr. Kirk's ego came across as slightly inflated. However, knowing of his accomplishments in the BBQ world and after tasting some of his recipes, I have added this to my "must have" list of BBQ books that I recommend to my friends. As the old saying goes, "It ain't braggin' if it's true" and, in Paul Kirk's case, he has proven it ain't braggin'.


Paul Kirk's bona fides as a BBQ expert are irrefutable. I have been cooking real slow cooked, smoked BBQ in an offset charcoal smoker (Bar-B-Chef) for five years now. One of my favorite books has been Kirk's Championship Barbecue Sauces. With this book he shares his knowledge on all aspects of preparing winning competition 'Q. Even if you don't plan to compete prize winning ribs or pulled pork is going to be fantastic BBQ. Kirk writes well and the recipes are mostly easy to follow. There's no way anyone but a professional chef will ever prepare them all but what I have prepared has all been very good. This book joins the Jamisons Smoke and Spice as a book that needs to be on the shelf of anyone interested in preparing the best authentic BBQ.


Paul Kirk shares secrets that other books skip over. He gives reasoning behind techniques as well as temperatures and times for every meat you ever wanted to cook outdoors. He starts from the beginning (choosing a butcher)and covers all the steps from meat preparation and safety to controlling temperatures. I have several outdoor cooking books. This one is the best.


1st of all, this guy has won 400 awards!
2nd, this book is packed with tons of recipes for anything you can grill or BBQ.
3rd tons of techniques, rubs, marinades, special home-made ketchups, mustards slathers.
Finally, the detail in this book is outstanding! Many BBQ/grilling books have great recipes, but don't give enough HOW-TO details that give you the delicious final product.


I love to cook, especially out in my backyard with the smoker. If this is you, then you will want this book. It has a plethora of recipes that will make you the envy of your neighborhood. It also explains the differences in slow smoking and grilling. You cannot go wrong in buying this book!!!


I bought this book under unusual circumstances. The day before I bought it, I complained to my sister I have way more recipes from cook books and newspaper clippings that I could ever possibly make. And I'm trying to eliminate more meat from my diet. So with a glut of recipes and a desire to eat less meat, it would only make sense for me to buy a book with 575 recipies devoted to grilling and slow smoking of dead animals. But I'm really glad I did!

Kirk shares a number of his barbecuing insights, which have definitely improved the results of my periodic attempts at ribs and chicken. The chapter on mustard slathers is a technique I've never seen before and the results I had using mustard slathers with salmon and ribs following Kirk's advice turned out pretty good. The fish marinades for salmon, tuna, and swordfish all turned out well. The marinades had good flavors, but showed the proper restraint that is important when cooking fish. The Jack Daniel's Marinated Salmon was awesome, although I smoked it with pecan rather than grill it as Kirk suggested.

And that illustrates the beauty of the book. Paul Kirk really encourages experimentation, and then provides an excellent guidebook to do just that. There's just a tremendous amount of creativity and originality in this book, and I found it infectious. There is seemingly no flavor Kirk ignores. The fact that all the recipes turn out good to great is even better! I'm not sure this is the best source for an authentic Tuscan Grilled Tuna, and I didn't try this recipe out, but I suspect it's pretty good, and I'm glad Kirk shared it with us.

I judge a cook book on how it improves my cooking, and this has made a big difference in my results with barbecue ribs and chicken, and also for grilled fish, and for that reason, it is highly recommended.



This book has some very useful information about the art of barbecuing and contains a huge variety of recipes for a huge variety of dishes. I was actually expecting more recipes for BBQ sauces and rubs which is why it did not get the top rating. I believe this book will take years to sample all of the interesting dishes but think that it will be worth the effort.


This is an excellent cookbook, and one that I use often. The recipes are easy to find, easy to prepare, and the variety of recipes can't be beat. My favorites are the marinades for chicken, but the book is full of tips for gas-grilling as well as charcoal...enough BBQ sauces to last a lifetime...and spice mixes for just about anything. This is a superb reference.


This is my new favorite BBQ book. I haven't been able to put it down for 4 weeks now, I keep going back to it for references and to check on ideas. I have turned dang near everything in my fridge and pantry into eaither a rub, slather or sauce, and ALL of them have been great. This book gave me the inspiration for each recipe I came up with. Lately I have been considering expanding my weekend backyard hobby into competing at contests just to see how I stack up. This book made me even more determined to enter. I'm now registered with he KCBS and planning to compete at a local event next month. This book gave me so many ideas, and taught me several things I did not know before. Thanks Paul Kirk, now I know why they call you the Baron of Barbecue!
